Innovations, Insights and Studies

Prof. Marcello Monti, together with his collaborators, reflecting on the guidelines for many skin diseases identified many inconsistencies and made substantial changes now validated by patients in the DermaClub community

Photodynamic therapy (PDT)

It is a therapy that does not use drugs but acts on skin cells by means of light after local administration of a photosensitizer.
This therapy originated to eliminate superficial skin tumors but following studies in which Prof. Marcello Monti actively participated, the indications of PDT were extended to numerous other skin diseases including:

  • Acne
  • Actinic Keratoses
  • Porokeratosis
  • Ulcers
  • Sunlight-induced ageing
  • Scleroderma

Prof. Marcello Monti has organised conferences, courses and written a manual to disseminate the practice of PDT in Italy

Interests in Medical and Surgical Dermocosmetology

Dermocosmetology is that branch of Dermatology that is concerned with medical and surgical interventions for aesthetic or functional purposes.
To bring Italian Dermocosmetology to the level of Dermatology, Prof. Marcello Monti has undertaken to write two volumes on the subject.

Interest in skin regeneration and the healing of wounds and ulcers

This is a subject that is often overlooked in dermatology but is of great importance for practical purposes and requires a lot of theoretical and practical preparation.
Prof. Marcello Monti has devoted himself to this subject by publishing a book on skin ulcers.
